I graduated from Piper High School in 1995. I learned
HTML in the fall of 1996. When I wanted to sit down and write a
web page, I didn't want to do one of those cheesy "look at this
picture of my dog" pages. I wanted to have some meaningful share
in the Internet. I wanted a page that would be useful for me, but
also useful for other people.
Then one day I got an email from a friend of mine
(my bean) concerning some news at Piper. She had sent it to dozens
of people that graduated with me, and I started to wondering what
it would be like if I were to lose touch with all of these people!
I started practicing my HTML skills by making a page full of "mailto"
links, using the addresses I saw in her email. My page got more
and more elaborate, and then I found a tool on Tripod that would
let me put a form on my page. Now that was the clincher. I learned
how to code a form in HTML, and I put up my first web pages.
I scoured the Internet search engines for absolutely
anything I could find that related to Piper High School, and I arranged
it in a table. I started searching the Internet's "white pages"
services. If they had an advanced search where I could look specifically
for Piper High School graduates, I took each and every Piper grad
and put them on my page. I assembled all the Piper information I
could find!
I tried promoting it in the search engines, but it
hasn't worked. If you go to Yahoo or AltaVista and search for Piper
High School, you'll get information on the Adult Community School,
on the radio station, and some other things, but you mostly get
information having to do with airplanes. For some reason, my page
doesn't show up in those search engines. I don't know why.
Well, that's my story. I'm a pretty open person. If
you want to know anything else about who I am, I'll probably tell
you. Enjoy your visit!
